Asela Lakshan is a dedicated lecturer at the Sri Lanka Institute of Robotics (SLIR), specializing in robotics, PLC programming, and automation. With extensive experience in teaching and practical applications, he delivers courses in Kids Robotics, covering tools like Scratch, TinkerCAD, Arduino, and C programming. He also conducts advanced training sessions for graduates, undergraduates, and industry professionals in PLC programming, ladder logic, industrial automation, and pneumatics. His commitment to education and hands-on learning ensures that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in modern automation technologies.
In addition to his work in robotics and automation, Asela has a strong background in medical laboratory science. He previously worked as a Medical Laboratory Technician, where he conducted diagnostic tests, analyzed biological specimens, and maintained laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability in medical testing. His experience in laboratory diagnostics, quality control, and adherence to safety protocols has provided him with a meticulous approach to problem-solving—an essential skill that he brings into the field of automation and robotics.
Beyond lecturing, Asela has contributed significantly to the development of automation systems at SLIR. He has designed and implemented various industrial and research-based systems, including a modular product sorting system, a chemical treatment system, a product sorting system, an elevator control system, a SCADA system with remote I/O, and an image processing system. His expertise extends beyond SLIR, as he has successfully completed external projects for other companies, including PLC and HMI programming for a stirrup bending machine and PLC programming for a heat treatment machine for wood.
Asela Lakshan holds certifications in Advanced Robotics and PLC Programming from SLIR and has completed a 1-year training program at the institute. His expertise in system design, programming, and industrial automation continues to drive innovation and technical excellence in the field.
